Some thoughts of Smash Lab

Smash Lab

Smash Lab is a television show on the Discovery Channel that first aired on December 26, 2007. The basis of the show is to take everyday technology and test it in “extraordinary ways”. 3

First they break down the technology to see how it works and then use their know-how to see how it could be used in a different, super-sized way. Could bullet-proof Kevlar protect an airplane from bombs? Could a car airbag be reinvented to stop a helicopter from sinking after ditching at sea? The Smash Lab team aims to find out. 2

Mary, as Eric stated above, you should just trash this show, and even if you dont do that, Discovery should just start over with a whole new cast, cast memebers who know what they are doing and can execute experiments effectively and accuratly. This show seems to have no science at all. There seems to be no control, no constants, the scaled down experiments are not proportional to the life size experiment, and the cutting-edge technology that you referred to seems non-existant. It does not live up to any of the other wonderful shows on this channel, and after reading the multitude of comments on these shows, it seems that the majority of the viewers are also dissapointed in this show. 6

The next generation in destruction instruction, Smash Lab features a team of maverick engineers as they take on everyday technology and apply it in revolutionary new ways. While the experiments on Mythbusters are likely well-planned out from start to finish, the process feels way more natural and off-the-cuff than Smash Labs. It seems like they’ve already decided how they are going to do something before they even do the small scale tests. 7

You have 3 guys and one girl(The Scientist), hey that’s pretty close to mythbuster’s 4 guys and one girl. Everyone on mythbusters seems to know what they are talking about and it doesn’t feel like someone wrote lines for them to say. Why watch a fake version of mythbusters on the same channel as mythbusters when you can just watch the real thing. This show won’t last very long. Don’t waste an hour watching it, you’re better off washing your hair or watching 2 rerun episodes of the wonder years :-). 4
